Hi My Name Debbie, My second son Flynn was born in August 2008 at Southend Hospital, He was born one month early due to having high anti-bodies. This was caused by mine and his bloods fighting while he was in the womb.
The Doctors at Kings / Great Ormond Street also found out, while I was pregnant with him he had Chondrodysplasia punctata. This is secondary to dwarfism; he also has brittle bone disorder (which is caused by the Chondrodysplasia punctata) spine, liver and spleen problems. As a result of my disorder & problems he was taken into the Special care baby unit as soon as he was born and required a full exchange blood transfusion and treatment. He was in there for one and a half weeks, then put on to a general baby ward.
The Doctors and Nurses were fantastic!!! He was then sent to Great Ormond Street where the Doctors were doing more investigations due to his condition. He will continue to be in the care of all his consultants at Southend & Great Ormond Street Hospitals until adulthood.
Because of what I, and my family have been through (and will still have to endure) I/we thought it appropriate to hold fundraising events to raise money for both hospitals and also to raise awareness of Chondrodysplasia punctata, We thought starting locally would be a good way of showing our future intentions.

All money that is raised by “squidgerscause” will be shared between SOUTHEND SPECIAL CARE BABY UNIT/NEPTUNE WARD and GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSPITALS.
Our aim is to be proactive in this cause. This event will be the first of many and hopefully after this, we will aim to organize more and bigger fund raising events in the future.

If there is any one out there who has a child with this condition, and you feel you need someone to chat with, do please contact me, as I know what it is like to feel isolated. Very few people have knowledge of this rare condition.
